It’s important for all members to know the escape plan, have working smoke detectors and fire extinguisher in your home. Here are some fire facts and a checklist to keep you and your family safe if a fire does happen. Fire Facts: • 44% of residential fires and 25% of civilian injuries come from cooking fires. • 65% of home fire deaths occur in homes with no working smoke detectors. • 1 out of 3 American households have developed a home fire escape plan. Fire Safety Checklist ✔ Test your smoke alarm monthly to make sure they are working. ✔ A smoke alarm should be on every level of your home, kitchen, inside each bedroom, and outside each sleeping area. ✔ Electrical cords are in good condition and not damaged. ✔ Every member in your household knows Stop, Drop and Roll if their clothes catch on fire. ✔ Make a home escape plan that includes an outside safe meeting place. Practice your home fire drill at least twice a year. ✔ Make sure all escape routes are clear of clutter and easily accessible.
