Punch Magazine - July 2024

We believe equity in higher education is a fundamental right for all and the pathway to personal achievement and community enrichment. So, we close the opportunity gap for first-generation, low-income college students by providing them with scholarships, mentoring, training and internship support that will enable them to graduate college and pursue their personal and professional goals. Serving students from San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties, PCF awarded 55 scholarships this past spring. In 2024-25, PCF will support 300+ scholars who are in colleges and universities throughout the country. Nationally, low-income, first-generation students graduate within six years at a rate of 21%. Given PCF’s comprehensive program, in 2023, 88% of PCF Scholars graduated within six years. Today, PCF alums are teachers, physicians, engineers, etc., and they are giving back to their communities. Each year, PCF receives over three times the number of applications than it has funds to support. As Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world.” By investing in PCF, you are helping first-generation scholars achieve their dreams.
