Doug has thrived with AbilityPath’s employment services for more than a decade. From 2010 to 2023, he worked at Safeway with the support of his job coach, Dorothy. Despite the pandemic’s challenges, Doug expanded his social circle, wrote and published his first book, took on leadership roles, and pursued his dream job at a library. In 2023, Doug was hired by the Belmont Library, where he quickly became a reliable and dedicated employee. In recognition of his achievements, Doug received AbilityPath’s 2024 Neal Poppin Award. In his heartfelt acceptance speech, he shared, “I really want to thank AbilityPath for having Dorothy be my job coach. And she’s more than a job coach. She’s also a friend.” Doug’s journey underscores the transformative power of community, inclusion and pursuing one’s passions. For over 100 years, AbilityPath has empowered children and adults with developmental disabilities through a lifetime of opportunities, including educational, therapeutic, vocational and family support. Join us in creating a world where people of all abilities are fully accepted, respected and included.
