Older adults and their families are struggling to stay afloat right here in our own communities. This is not OK. Angel runs out of money to buy food each week. Lily is disabled and cannot shop or cook for herself. Nadia is facing a life-altering decision this morning to quit her job to care for her father diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Celeste has an appointment today for her cancer treatment and no longer drives. Tom lives alone with no one to spend the day with. PVI is here with meaningful programs for critical needs like these, enabling seniors to age in place with essential programs that also help to reduce use of costly health care services. The “epidemic of loneliness” is equally pervasive, with countless older adults living in solitude, yearning for human connection. The U. S. Surgeon General identified loneliness as epidemic in the U.S. San Mateo County declared loneliness a public health crisis, with Supervisor David Canepa now championing this critical issue. The staggering rise in Alzheimer’s and other dementias among our aging population is overwhelming the family caregivers dealing with these devastating diseases. PVI has been transforming senior care in the community for over 75 years—providing access to the nutritious food, Alzheimer’s care services and concierge caregiver support services, stimulating learning and social activities and reliable transportation services seniors need to thrive. Every senior deserves to live a vital and independent life. Together, with your support, the fastest growing age group can do just that. Peninsula Volunteers, Inc.
