M Claudio Mariani ANTIQUES DEALER [ PHOTOGRAPHY: ROBB MOST Claudio Mariani C. Mariani Antiques 1301 Harrison Street, San Francisco 415.541.7868 | info@cmarianiantiques.com cmarianiantiques.com What inspired your career journey? It’s a family tradition. My grandfather, father, brother were all antique dealers back in Italy—which has provided me with an excellent network in Europe. What is the range of your collection and do you offer any other services? We have over 10,000 pieces. They’re mostly from Europe and Asia, 16th-, 17th-, and 18th-century items. Our inventory ranges from chests of drawers to dining tables to rugs to paintings to sculptures and accessories. Many items come from noble European families. I also do restoration and reproduction work. What’s a recent accomplishment you are proud of? I was able to participate at The San Francisco Fall Art & Antiques Show, which was a great honor. People come all the way from England, Japan and Italy to do this show. What do you find most satisfying about your work? To be able to restore beautiful antique pieces and to keep these treasures for prosperity (and in perfect condition to keep their value). Any favorite finds at the moment? Right now, we have a Venetian chinoiserie cabinet with giltwood dragons. It is enormous and really beautiful. It’s priced at over a million dollars. NOTA B L E MEN PHOTOGRAPHY: ROBB MOST
