Chris Chambers was the first baseman in a Canadian baseball league when the Peninsula native began considering his next career move. His great grandfather Al established Redwood City’s Davies Appliance in 1934 before his grandparents, Joe and Virginia, later took over running the trusted shop known for quality brands in appliances and furniture but then they too started to consider making changes. “My grandfather Joe, who passed in July of 2021, called and asked if I’d like to sell home appliances to see how it goes,” Chris remembers. “I came home and within the first few months he was testing me to see if it was going to work. Immediately I knew I was passionate about it, and I had a lot of pride taking over the family business. I caught on quicker than I thought I would, and it really took off. Joe taught me how to develop relationships. Davies is built off customer service and good relationships, and he is responsible for instilling that in me.” Taking over in 2014, Chris and his wife Kelsey began by modernizing the nearly century-old business, first by upgrading the showroom and computer systems (the books were still kept by ledger) but keeping some aspects of the business that are timeless. “Each customer is treated by what they need,” Chris says. “That’s why I think we’re still here, after 90 years instead of the horror stories from the big box stores.” DAVIES APPLIANCE 1580 El Camino Real, Redwood City 650.366.5728 chris@daviesapplianceinc.com daviesapplianceInc.com The Davies Family 4 Generations, Davies Appliance
