There are some areas outside of Sunriver that are off leash. • Protect your dog’s paws in both the summer and winter by investing a good pair of dog booties. • Take the 7 second test on hot days to determine if the pavement is too hot before walking your dog. Rest your hands on the pavement and count to seven. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog. • A quick tip: If the outside temperature is 77 degrees, the pavement can be 125 degrees; 86 degrees, the pavement is 135 degrees; 87 degrees, 143 degrees for the pavement and 102 degrees, 167 degrees for the pavement. Note: Walking on pavement that is 125 degrees can cause skin damage in one minute. • Even on warm summer days, the lake and river water can be chilly. Know your dog’s physical limitations before he wanders into the water and if may need a lifejacket. Walking Tips with Your Dog 2024-25 | SunriverChamber.com119
