Paddle up the beautiful Anahulu River near the famous Rainbow Bridge where you will often see Honu (sea turtles) or out into Haleiwa Bay. Their experienced instructors will help you sign in, give you instructions and help you launch right into the river. SWIMMING Oahu is rimmed with some 30 miles of beaches along its 112-mile coastline. The City & County of Honolulu maintains nearly 60 beach parks, with the majority offering public facilities. Top town picks are Waikiki Beach and Ala Moana Beach Park. On the Windward Coast, Kailua Beach Park (at the end of Kailua Road) is among Oahu’s finest. WINDSURFING Windsurfers flock to Diamond Head and Kailua beach parks to finesse their topsyturvy maneuvers. If you’re a novice, you’ll appreciate launching in Kailua’s easy surf, where you can enjoy miles of protected flat water inside the reef from Jump City to the east end of Lanikai Beach. Diamond Head is reserved for experts. Be prepared for bigger swells, windier conditions and ample board surfers sharing the waves. Waialae Beach in Kahala is suited for beginners. Again, always exercise extreme caution before entering the ocean–especially on the north and west facing shorelines due to seasonal high surf, hazardous rip currents and rapidly changing ocean conditions. Always check with a lifeguard before entering the water. Be sure to lock your car and take valuables with you–provided you have someone to watch them while you’re in the water.
