Fort Shafter 322 Fort Shafter is among the most beautiful military installations in the world and reflects the pride and spirit of the Soldiers and Civilians of today’s Army. As the oldest Army installation in Hawaii, Fort Shafter is rich in military history. Established in 1907, Fort Shafter is home to the U.S. Army, Pacific, USARPAC. USARPAC, the Army Service Component Command to U.S. Pacific Command, provides forces, commands assigned forces and enables full-spectrum operations to deter aggression, advance regional security and cooperation and respond to crises. As required, it provides command and control for small-scale contingency operations to support humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and peacekeeping operations. The command is dedicated to improving the quality of life for its families and recently dedicated the new and superior SimpsonWisser Housing Area. Drive up, down and around Fort Shafter’s rolling hills or stroll historic Palm Circle with its gardens, a gazebo and numerous stately homes and royal palm trees. Take in a game of golf followed by a snack at Mulligan’s, or a meal at the Hale Ikena (House with a View) Community Club.
