Hickam Air Force Base is home to the 15th Air Base Wing and Pacific Air Forces Headquarters. The installation merged in 2010 with Naval Station Pearl Harbor to become part of Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam. The base encompasses more than 2,800 acres for more than 5,000 military and 1,400 civilian personnel. There are two golf courses on base: Mamala Bay and Par 3. Mamala (18-hole) is considered the course of choice by experienced players. The base was named in honor of a pilot, Lieutenant Colonel Horace Meek Hickam, who was killed in an aircraft accident in 1934. Hickam shares its borders with Pearl Harbor and the Daniel K.
