Wheeler 378 Wheeler Army Airfield is full of aviation history. Lieutenants Lester Maitland and Albert Hegenberger flew the first non-stop flight to the mainland from Wheeler in 1927. And in 1935, Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly non-stop from Wheeler to California. Although once an Air Force installation, Wheeler was acquired by the Army in 1991 and is now used by the 25th Infantry Division (Light). To reach the base, take H1 West to H2 North toward Wahiawa. Take Exit 7 and turn left off exit and proceed to Kam Hwy 99. Take a right and Wheeler’s main gate is on the left. CHECKING IN Army personnel arriving at the airport without a sponsor can either report to the USO Reststop between Baggage Claim E & F or Schofield’s 25th Replacement ID Cadre located across from Baggage Claim F WHEELER ARMY AIRFIELD at the Information Booth for transportation to the base. A shuttle is available from the Airport USO Reststop to Schofield. TEMPORARY LODGING The Inn at Schofield Barracks is a 192room guesthouse that is provided for families arriving in Hawaii. There is a deli and a 24-hour convenience and video store that is available for guests and the general public.
