54 BEJEWELED BORROWING A PAGE FROM LEGENDARY ADVICE COLUMNIST DEAR ABBY, STEVEN GOLDFARB SITS DOWN TO ANSWER YOUR MOST PERPLEXING JEWELRY QUESTIONS. Design Consultation What should I look for in something I intend to pass down? What makes something heirloom-worthy? As with so many things in life, quality is what makes something heirloom worthy. While almost all jewelry is tied to emotion and special occasions, some pieces are truly exceptional in quality, design, and/or value. Part of what we do at Alvin Goldfarb Jeweler is to help evaluate jewelry for this, and future, generations. What characteristics contribute to a diamond’s beauty? Clarity How many internal characteristics are within a given diamond. This is the fingerprint of the gemstone. Color Diamonds are thought of as white although most/all have some level of color ranging from yellow (most often) to blue, and even red (quite rare).
