BROWN III, ’67 George Brown III, dean emeritus of the College of Forestry, passed away on June 9. Brown arrived at Oregon State in 1964 as a doctoral student studying forest hydrology. He began his academic career just two years later, focusing on the relationship between timber harvesting and water quality. During his tenure as dean, the College of Forestry grew significantly and was recognized as the top forestry program in the nation. He retired in 1999 after serving as a faculty member and administrator for 32 years. Brown received a Lifetime Achievement award from the International Council of Forest Engineering, an organization he helped found. He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters Christen Maier and Annie Brown Kurowski, ’90; son-in-law; grandchildren; sister; nieces and nephews. Donations can be made in his memory at ForOregonState.org/Brown-scholarship.
