The Hospital de la Familia (HdlF) Foundation provides life-changing care in rural Guatemala by providing funding and resources to support a state-of-the-art vision care center, a general medical and surgical program, childhood malnutrition and maternal health programs and more, all centered at the Hospital de la Familia in Nuevo Progreso, San Marcos. What started as a dream in 1976 by three unlikely partners was funded with donations from The Family Club of San Francisco and built with the labor of the local people. Today HdlF is one of the finest medical programs in Guatemala, treating over 20,000 patients per year. No patient is ever turned away for inability to pay. Emphasizing true partnership and education between the volunteer Guatemalan and US surgical teams to provide the highest quality of medical care, HdlF Foundation also focuses on strengthening the abilities of local Guatemalan surgeons with exchange programs and training.
